Missing teeth don’t just affect the appearance of your smile. They can make it difficult to chew or talk.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a type of restorative dentistry. The prosthetic replaces a missing tooth and restores its appearance and function.
We can use these prosthetics to replace any number of missing teeth. They are a practical option for replacing teeth in both the upper and lower jaws.

How does an implant work?
An implant is a titanium screw that goes into your jawbone. The screw functions just like a natural tooth root by providing strength and support. It also prevents jawbone atrophy by stimulating bone growth.
An abutment goes on top of the screw, and a crown goes on top of the abutment. The crown will match the colour and shape of your existing teeth.
What are the advantages of implants?
If you have a missing tooth, call us today about getting an implant! Implants are preferable over other restorative options like dental bridges and dentures because:
- You never have to remove them for sleeping, cleaning, etc.
- They can last a lifetime (as long as you properly care for them)
- They completely restore your bite
- They support your facial structure and prevent sagging
What does the procedure look like?
This procedure is more involved than other restorative options. But, the results are well worth the process.
Before the procedure
We start by evaluating your tooth to determine if an implant is the way to go. We will take scans to assess your bone structure and density. Some patients require a bone graft and/or sinus lift prior to the procedure. We also use the scans to help us plan implant placement.
Inserting the implant
During the actual procedure, our team will surgically insert the titanium screw into the jawbone and cover it with a healing cap. We will give the screw adequate time to osseointegrate (naturally embed itself into the jawbone).
Next steps
When the time comes, we will replace the healing cap with a healing abutment and temporary tooth. This gives the implant even more time to properly heal.
Lastly, we will take impressions using our fast and accurate 3Shape Trios scanner. Our lab makes your new crown using the scans. We fit you with the final crown and abutment, making adjustments as needed.
Your implant will function just like a normal tooth! To make it last, be sure to practice good oral hygiene and visit your dentist regularly.
