Children's Dental Benefits Schedule in Quakers Hill

The Medicare Children’s Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides funding for a range of basic dental services for eligible children aged 2 to 17. Complete Family Dental accepts CDBS, so eligible patients can access a portion of their dental care at no out-of-pocket cost or at a reduced cost, depending on the treatment required.

What is the CDBS?

The Children’s Dental Benefits Schedule is a Medicare program that provides dental benefits for eligible children aged 2 to 17 over a two-calendar-year period. It covers a range of general dental services and doesn’t cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic procedures, or services provided in a hospital setting.

The CDBS isn’t means-tested but is linked to eligibility for certain government payments. Benefits must be used within the two-year period and don’t roll over.

How to use the CDBS at CFD

1

Check eligibility

A child is eligible in a calendar year if aged 2 to 17 and their family received a relevant government payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A, for at least one day that year.

2

Bring the Medicare card

Let us know at booking that you would like to use the CDBS, and bring your child’s Medicare card. We verify entitlement on the day using HICAPS.

3

We bill Medicare

We bill Medicare directly for covered services. If a fee is within the benefit amount, there’s no gap to pay. If it exceeds the remaining benefit, we explain any out-of-pocket amount before proceeding.

Questions about the CDBS

Eligibility is checked through Medicare. Bring your child’s Medicare card to their appointment and we verify entitlement on the day using HICAPS. You can also check your child’s CDBS balance through your Medicare online account via myGov.
The CDBS doesn’t cover orthodontic treatment such as Invisalign or braces, cosmetic procedures, or implants, or services provided in a hospital setting.
If your child is eligible and has not had a check-up recently, a routine examination and clean is an ideal first use of the benefit. We also recommend fissure sealants for eligible children whose first permanent molars have come through, which are covered under the CDBS.
