Why ongoing maintenance matters
Gum disease is a chronic condition. Even after successful initial treatment, bacteria can re-establish in the periodontal pockets around the teeth if regular maintenance isn’t maintained. Without ongoing care, the condition is likely to progress over time.
Periodontal maintenance appointments are more frequent than standard hygiene visits, typically every three to four months in the period following treatment, adjusted as your gum health stabilises.
