Traditional Braces in Quakers Hill

Traditional metal braces are a proven and reliable orthodontic option for straightening teeth and correcting bite issues. They’re suitable for a wide range of cases, including more complex tooth movements, and remain one of the most cost-effective orthodontic treatments available.

How do metal braces work?

Metal braces use stainless steel brackets bonded to each tooth, connected by wires and held with elastic ties. Your dentist adjusts the wires at regular appointments, progressively applying gentle force to move teeth into position.

Because the braces are fixed in place for the duration of treatment, they work continuously, which can be an advantage for cases requiring significant tooth movement. Treatment is effective at any age; we see both teenagers and adults in braces.

What to expect during treatment

1

Placement

Braces are placed in a single appointment: brackets are bonded and the initial wire placed. Some mild soreness for a few days is normal as teeth begin to move.

2

Adjustments

You attend adjustment appointments every four to eight weeks, where wires are changed and the treatment plan progresses.

3

Retainers

At the end of active treatment the braces are removed and retainers are provided, worn as directed to maintain your result.

Questions we get asked about braces

Yes. Orthodontic treatment with metal braces is effective at any age. We see both teenagers and adults in braces. If you’ve been thinking about orthodontic treatment, it’s never too late to explore your options.
There’s typically some mild soreness for a few days after placement and after each adjustment, as teeth begin to move. This usually settles quickly.
Some hard, crunchy, or sticky foods should be avoided or modified to prevent bracket breakage. Your dentist provides a detailed list at your placement appointment and explains how to brush and floss around the brackets and wires.

Worried about how braces will look?

Say so at the consultation. We’ll show you the brackets we actually use and what they look like in a real mouth, not in a brochure.

About results photos

We only publish before-and-after photographs of our own braces patients, shot the same way at each stage, and only with written consent. We would rather show you nothing than show you a stock smile.

Come in and we’ll show you what the different stages of a real case looked like, from bonding the brackets to the final review.

Treatment time and result vary from person to person. Nothing here is a guarantee of outcome.
